We are pleased to announce
that the 17th International Conference on the Discrete Simulation of
Fluid Dynamics (DSFD 2008) will be held in Florianópolis, Brazil, on
August 4-8, 2008.
The DSFD series of
conferences originated with the historic 1986 Los Alamos conference
organized by Gary D. Doolen. Since that time, the DSFD conferences have
emerged as the premiere forum for researchers in the field, and many
exciting new discoveries in lattice models of fluid dynamics have been
first announced at DSFD conferences.
Topics emphasized at these meetings include lattice gas automata (LGA),
the lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE), discrete velocity methods (DVM),
dissipative particle dynamics (DPD), smoothed-particle hydrodynamics
(SPH), direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC), stochastic rotation
dynamics (SRD), molecular dynamics (MD), and hybrid methods. There will
be sessions on advances in both theory and computation, on engineering
applications of discrete fluid algorithms, and on fundamental issues in
statistical mechanics, kinetic theory and hydrodynamics and their
applications in Micro, Nano and Multiscale Physics for emerging
technologies. Other topics of interest also include theoretical and
experimental work on interfacial phenomena, droplets, free-surface
flow, and micro and nanofluidics.
The DSFD 2008 program includes a series of tutorial lectures on some of
the main themes of the conference. We wish to encourage participation
from researchers at all stages of their career, from students to senior
researchers.
Local
Florianópolis is an
exceptionally beautiful city. It is hard to choose the most gorgeous
beach, the most romantic lagoon, the most charming place. The magic of
the island captivate all who visit it. Its 320 thousand inhabitants
have excellent facilities: great universities, shopping malls, hotels,
restaurants and an intense night life. It is the Brazilian state
capital with the best life quality. Colonized by immigrants from the
Azores island, the city is marked by their architecture from the
colonial period. The people, extremely warm, speak with a peculiar
accent. Its 100 beaches offer the right place for all kinds of water
sports: surf, rowing, sailing, sand-board, jet ski, diving, wind-surf,
etc. Schooner trips are offered to several islands where visitors see
different fortresses built by the Portuguese in the 18th century. It is
a city to be visited year-round.
